As per CBSE information, the number of students who have registered for NEET examination this year is 13.36 lakh, which is more than the last year by 2 lakhs. The increasing number of students registering with NEET every year is making the examination also tougher.
The NEET was introduced for the first time in 2013 but it was scrapped in 2014 itself. Again in 2016, it was re-introduced on the order of Supreme Court and most of the states opted for it, which has also contributed to the rise in a registration of students with NEET 2018. Govt. makes various schemes and policies for awarding scholarship which has also resulted in the more number of students passing out class 12 examinations.
In the given situation, the admission of students to medical and dental is set to be tough. According to figures revealed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), over 13.36 lakh hopefuls have registered for NEET 2018, up from 11.5 lakh who had registered in 2017. The total number of seats in MBBS and BDS institutes across the country stands at 60,000.
One of the reasons behind increasing number of students opting for NEET is its all India character. Experts say that there are a number of reasons behind this rise in registrations. Students from across the country have realized that NEET is more important than state conducted CETs, therefore more and more have been opting for the national level examinations. It is sad that a number of medical seats is very low on one hand and the number of student increases year by year on the other.
CBSE has already started distributing admit cards to registered candidates. NEET (UG) 2018 will be conducted in 11 languages across the country on May 6.
