Fundamentally, Both AIIMS and JIPMER are the Same


There is not much difference between AIIMS and JIPMER Medical Entrance Examinations. Fundamentally, both the examinations are the same. Both are held on national level and the examinations are of very high standard. There is less number of medical seats in JIPMER than the AIIMS. AIIMS with its 7 branches has 700 medical seats while JIPMER has only 200. JIPMER attaches more importance to English language skill than AIIMS.

Apart from Physics, Chemistry and Biology, the AIIMS has one additional section of General Knowledge while JIPMER has English and Reasoning.  AIIMS examination tests concepts and understanding. Its problems can be lengthy.  JIPMER requires the medical aspirants to be much quicker than AIIMS.

Do AIIMS and JIPMER have a different syllabus?
AIIMS syllabus is the same as JIPMER.  AIIMS exam has two additional sections – GK (mostly current affairs) and aptitude. Assertion-Reason questions will be asked in AIIMS entrance. There are also two additional sections – English & Reasoning in JIPMER exam.

Exam Pattern of AIIMS and JIPMER
Both AIIMS and JIPMER are online exams (CBT). Let’s see the exam pattern of AIIMS and JIPMER one by one.

AIIMS Exam Pattern
The AIIMS entrance examination is of 3½ hours duration and will have one paper consisting of 200 objective type (multiple choice and reason-assertion type) questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, General Knowledge and Aptitude.

The distribution of questions is:
Physics: 60
Chemistry: 60
Biology (Botany and Zoology): 60
General Knowledge: 10
Aptitude & Logical Thinking: 10
Total Questions: 200
Each incorrect response will get a score of -1/3 (minus-one-third).
The pattern of JIPMER MBBS Entrance Examination is:
Exam duration: 2.5 hrs
Physics: 60 Questions,
Chemistry: 60 Questions,
Biology: 60 Questions,
Logic and Quantitative Reasoning: 10 Questions &
English and Comprehension: 10 Questions.
Four marks will be awarded for each correct answer. One mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Is it possible to prepare for AIIMS and JIPMER simultaneously?
Yes, definitely. The core syllabus of PCB is same in these two examinations. The preparation strategy would be the same for AIIMS and JIPMER.
For AIIMS and JIPMER, medical aspirants need to prepare for some additional sections – GK + Aptitude in AIIMS, and English + Reasoning in JIPMER.

How to prepare for AIIMS and JIPMER?
Keep your main subjects strong – Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
AIIMS requires thorough knowledge of NCERT books.
The Physics in AIIMS is slightly difficult but if your concepts are strong, you can solve problems easily. You can prepare additional sections in AIIMS and JIPMER. At the same time, you need to keep your focus on PCB revision. Time management is very important in JIPMER. You need to solve 200 questions in only 150 mins, i.e. 2.5 hrs.
For JIPMER, one needs good knowledge of English and Reasoning. The English is little tricky, not so simple.

Seats comparison in AIIMS and JIPMER

The total number of seats in all AIIMS combined is 700 for Indian students. There are 7 seats for Foreign Nationals in AIIMS Delhi. The selection ratio in AIIMS makes the exam more challenging for medical aspirants .JIPMER has least seats in compare to AIIMS, around 200 in two JIPMER campus.
